In this podcast, Aiden and I give some reactions, thoughts, and opinions on Shane Koyczan's slam poem "To This Day". Below is the link to the YouTube video
Slam Poetry is a style of delivery, as well as a genre of poetry. Slam poetry relates to either the originality of the work being presented by the author, and to the style in which they're delivering it. The authors tone and message in the poem are most important. Usually slam poetry is used to convey a message, such as Shane Koyczan's message in "To This Day" which is anti-bullying. Slam poetry is pretty recent to the scene, as it became more popular amongst teens because it a fast paced, emotion fueled way to convey the deepest parts of ones soul. Slam poetry is now a competitive sport, where contestants are judged based on the poem, it's originality, as well as it's structure, tone, and feel. “A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience."
Even though it is a competitive scene, Slam poets are known for the compassion and their humility, as well as their tenacity, and ability to touch on hard subjects without seeming condescending or rude. Poets, such as Andrea Gibson, use personal stories to fuel their poetry, adding a human element to the story. All slam poetry must be original, which puts a lot of stain on the poets because they want to avoid sounding cliché or monotonous. But because Andrea and Shane both underwent so much opposition and hatred as children, their poetry, in my opinion, is raw and breathtaking; it forces one to self examine their stance, either as a victim or the antagonizer. Both Andrea and Shane use their work to inspire those around them, to share a message that may not be pleasant, but certainly is necessary.
This is a sports related blog giving you the latest sports news from my personal interest, however, it will be mainly used for my Multimedia class and homework.

Podcast Outline
To This Day Project -
Shane Koyczan wrote “To This Day" to send a message about bullying. Our main reason for the podcast is to discuss the video and give feedback and our personal opinions. Below entails some of things we will discuss:
-discuss how his personal experience sets the tone, -the vivid imagery that Koyczan, as well as his tone and pace really grasps the reader, and forces them to self examine, -in most cases, people will fall into two different categories; they will either relate to shane, or relate to the bullies. In the case of the matter, it is presented in such a visually stimulating way, it hooks the video cane open their eyes and show them a new perspective.
-Talk about how it tells different stories through the lives of a girl and boy and how some of these problems they were facing, people are go through them everyday. - How much emotion he displays throughout the video.
-How bullying can have an affect and play a bad role throughout your entire life making you lose self confidence. -How the video raises awareness about bullying. - What emotions do the video bring out of a person. - Our favorite part that meant the most to us/ what part stuck out to us.

ESPNU College Hoops Podcast
ESPN Firs Take Podcast
Why I picked these two Podcasts! I picked these two podcast because these were shows that I could listen to because it had some relevance to my life. I also picked them because they were sports related one which was college hoops and this is something I can relate to since I am current collegiate NCAA participant. The other podcast was about a collegiate football player and NBA news about the upcoming all-star weekend events. Overall I love sports and this was something I could listen to.
What I liked and dislike! I like the fact that I could download the podcast or listen to at it any time of the day just in case i missed it when it was live. What I dislike about podcast is that I can not really listen audio news information unless I have either video to go with or it is some serious breaking news, without the two I lose interest very fast.

Mayor Candidate Outdoing Tax Base
At the Springfield mayor debate last night, candidate Juanita Williams accused Abraham logrolling. It was said that Abraham was trying to work for his friends(Main St. residents) who contributed largely to his campaign by widening Main St.
Jesse Abraham said he would try to improve three things in the town that would benefit the people. In fact, he tried to give everyone something but city funds could not support his plan.
League president Sally Ham said the "League of Women Voters" sponsored debate was a success as there were 245 people attendance .

Comparing Two Washington D.C. News Channels
Fox 5 DC & WUSA9 Local Channels
Fox 5 DC and WUSA9 are two local news channels in the Washington D.C. area. WUSA9 in my opinion does a better job at writing as the news stories are mostly short and brief, although Fox 5 DC is my favorite of the two. Fox 5 DC has the better websites as the website is more interactive. Fox 5 also does a better job of videos and picture slide shows as well. They both cover local and national news as the channels are good resources to get your news from. Fox 5 DC looks as though it has more workers than WUSA 9 just because the site seems like it has a lot more to offer than WUSA 9.
